We are going on a field trip!!!

We are going on a field trip!!!  We finally heard back from transportation and we have been approved to go to Tom's Farm in Huntley on Monday, October 5th.  The cost of the trip is $9 per student.  This includes a pie pumpkin, 3 gourds, a wagon ride into the field, tour of the animals, tour of the vegetable barn, a grain talk and transportation costs.

We will be eating lunch at Tom's Farm so we are asking you to please send your child's lunch in a paper bag with your child's name on it and make sure all lunch materials are disposable. If you need a paper bag, please let me know.  I have a ton!

Because our trip is quickly approaching, we are asking you to please fill out and return the permission slip and send in your child's $9 by this Thursday!  This will allow us to finalize everything before our trip.

If you have any questions, please email me.  We are so excited to have this opportunity to visit a real working farm!

Sincerely,
Mikee Blake

Scholastic Orders

Good Morning!  A couple days a go I sent home a Scholastic book order with your child.  This is a great way to bring new books into your house for far less than going to the book store to buy them.  Every time you order a book from our scholastic flyers the classroom gets points.  I am able to use those points to purchase new books for our classroom.  As you can guess, our classroom books get pretty abused throughout the year, especially the high interest books.  This allows me to get new copies of books or books that fit the kids every changing interests.  This way everyone has books in the classroom that they WANT to read.  We all know reading is MUCH more fun when you have something that peeks your interest.

This month, Scholastic is running a special.  Not only will I receive points for each book you order, but I have the opportunity to get bonus points for the amount of money our classroom orders, up to 5000 points!!! That can get us almost 400 new books in the classroom!!!!!

To order books, visit www.scholastic.com.  Click on the book club link. Our class code is: GVPXK   Book orders will be open until September 25th.

If you have any questions, please email me and I can help.  If you are not comfortable ordering online you can always return the order form attached the the Scholastic flier and I will put the order in.  Please make all checks out to Scholastic Book Club.

Superhero's x-ray vision

Every superhero has a special power and our class superheros are no different.  Today we unleashed our x-ray vision super power during our math hour. If you get a chance in the next couple of days have your superhero show off his/her x-ray vision.

All you need is 10 objects and a cup.  First, line up the 10 objects in 2 rows of 5, one above the other.  Next, have your superhero close his/her eyes or turn the other way or even leave the room so they cannot see what you are doing. Next, take some of the ten objects and hide them under the cup.  Have your superhero use his/her superpowers to "see" how many objects are under the cup.  It's AMAZING!!! Your superhero is able to see right through the cup and know exactly how many objects are under there!!!

And the winner is....

We are very excited to announce the winning name of our school mascot is TIMBER!!!!!  Thank you for all your support in helping our name win the contest.

Math Homework Tonight

In Math, we were working on combinations of numbers that equal six using addition.  For homework, I have sent home a blank sheet of number bonds.  Work with your child to create number bonds that equal 6.  Then cut out the number bonds and write an equation on the back of the card that matches the number bond on the front. These cards will be kept at home to help your child practice his/her addition facts for the number 6.  THIS PROJECT DOES NOT NEED TO BE RETURNED TO SCHOOL TOMORROW. If you have any questions, please email me. :)
